Vendedora de cacahuetes - Peanuts saleswoman

Patan ( Nepal), 2004/08

Aquí pude captar a esta vendedora de cacahuetes en una acera de Patan, muy cerca de Katmandhu. Alrededor había muchos otros puestos ambulantes de gentes del campo que acuden a los mercados de la ciudad a vender sus mercancías. Esta mujer me pareció especial, dormitando apaciblemente a la sombra de su paraguas a la espera de clientes.

Here I captured this saleswoman of peanuts, in a sidewalk of Patan (close Katmandhu). There was others itinerant vendors all around: people from the countryside that goes to the city to sell their goods. This woman was special to me, gently sleeping under her umbrella, waiting for customers.

Ofrenda al Ganges - Oblation

Varanasi, India. 2004/08

En el río Ganges (Benarés) un grupo doe mujeres ofrecen pétalos al río sagrado. Iban cantando. Era un momento lleno de color y sensaciones.

In the Ganges (Varanasi), a group of women offer up some petals to the sacred river. They were singing. It was an emotional moment, full of colour.

Katmandhu, Nepal - 2004/08

Esta es una vista personal de la stupa de Swayambunath, en Katmandhu (Nepal). Los ojos de Buda entre las coloridas banderas de rezos. Una foto llena de color y de espiritualidad.
El objetivo se centra sobre los ojos, que además quedan en el centro de la composición, desenfocando ligeramente las banderas.

This is a personal view of the stupa of Swayambunath, in Katmandhu (Nepal). Budha eyes through the coloured flag of prayers. A photo full of colour and mysticism.
The focus is over the eyes (in the center), lightly unfocusing the rest of the composition.

No hay mucho que decir de esta fotografía. Lo que se ve al fondo es la catedral de Nôtre-Dame, desenfocada. Toda la atención se centra en los pájaros.

Es una de mis fotos preferidas.

Revolución y marketing

Cayo Largo (Cuba), 2005/12

El marketing se lo apropia todo. Así ha sido muchas veces en la historia: una buena forma de acabar con un movimiento revolucionario o de restar significado a una protesta... es ponerlo de moda y hacerlo caer ante el todopoderoso capitalismo. Aquí un ejemplo muy curioso: camisetas del "Che", símbolo de la revolución cubana entre otras cosas, se venden como souvenir, junto con pulseras, gorras, maracas, etc. en Cayo Largo (Cuba), una de las paradisíacas islas "para turistas" de este fantástico país.

En fin, la foto está un poco sobreexpuesta, pero me gusta.

Marketing makes everything. Many times in History happened like that: one way to finish with a revolutionary movement is to create a trend of it. This is an interesting example: shirts of the "Che" are sold as a souvenir in Cayo Largo (Cuba), with caps, maracas or bracalets. "Che" is one of the symbols of the Cuban Revolution... but capitalism is powerful and transform that into a souvernir.

Well, the photo is overexposed, but I like it...

Los artesanos de joyas - Jewels craftsman

Jaipur (India) - 2004-08

En Jaipur, una localidad famosa entre otras cosas por el trabajo centenario con las piedras preciosas, tuve ocasión de visitar un establecimiento de artesanía en el que se trabaja y se pulen las joyas más caras, en las condiciones más humildes y con los medios más rudimentarios. Quienes trabajaban en esta foto no tenía ninguno más de 18 años.

Jaipur, a town famous for the centenary work of the gemstones. Here I visited a place where the artisans work and shine what after become the most expensive jewels in the market, in a very poor conditions and with the basic tools. None of these whose hands shows this photo was more than 18 years old.

Florence (Italy) - 2006/07

Esta foto está tomada desde la Piazza de la Signoría, en el centro histórico de Florencia. La mano es de una de las espectaculares estatuas que adornan la loggia: "El rapto de las sabinas".

La foto fue tomada al atardecer y sin flash, acentuando el contraluz entre el reloj y la estatua.

Me gusta porque es una foto con especial carga connotativa y con fuerza expresiva.

I took this picture in "Piazza de la Signoria", in the historic center of Florence. The hand belongs to one of the impressive statues built in the loggia: "Kidnapping of the Sabinas"

The shot was in the sunset and I dind't use flash, emphasizing the backlighting between the clock and the statue.

I like this picture because of its special inferred meaning.

Here I gather some of my tests and creations with the camera. None of the pictures has been edited or modified: they are just like they were exposed.

Barcelona (Spain), 2001/04

Puedes encontrar esta estatua en el Parque de la Ciudadela de Barcelona. Una cascada de agua cae sobre unos caballos que parecen galopar furiosamente. Con la foto quise transmitir sensación de movimiento y dramatismo.

La foto está tomada con una Canon EOS300, que permite la opción de múltiples exposiciones para una misma foto. En este caso son4 exposiciones sobre el mismo negativo.

You can find this statue in the "Parque de la Ciudadela" (Barcelona). There is a waterfall over a horses that seem to be galloping fiercely. With this shot I wanted to express the sensation of movement and emotion.

The picture is taken with a Canon EOS300. This machine allows to take several shots in a same photo. In this case I took 4 displays in the same photo.

Paris (France), 2001/07

Atardecer. En este momento la Torre Eiffel estaba siendo iluminada por luces intermitentes repartidas por toda la estructura. Es un efecto óptico muy interesante, parecido a las chispas de los fuegos artificiales.

La foto está tomada con obturador lento y sin trípode (por lo que está ligeramente movida), con intención de captar la sensación de movimiento de las luces encendiéndose y apagándose en la torre. El resultado me gusta mucho, el cielo parece pintado y la torre está preciosa.

Sunset. In that moment the Eiffel Tower showed irregular lights turning on and off. It is a very interesting optical effect, similar to glints or fireworks.

The photo is taken with an slow obturator and without tripod (that's why it is lightly moved), because I wanted to capture the sense of moving of the lights turning on and of in the tower. I like very much the result. The sky seems painted and the tower looks beautiful.

Pisa (Italy), 2006/07

La famosa torre inclinada de Pisa. Con esta foto quise jugar con ello para crear un efecto de caída muy pronunciado.

La foto está tomada con una Canon EOS300, que permite la opción de múltiples exposiciones para una misma foto. En este caso son4 exposiciones sobre el mismo negativo, girando ligeramente la cámara en cada exposición para darle sensación de caída.

The famous inclined tower of Pisa. I just tried to play with this fact to create a photo with a notable effect of falling.

The picture is taken with a Canon EOS300. This machine allows to take several shots in a same photo. In this case I took 4 displays in the same photo, rotating slightly the camera in each shot, to give this effect of falling.

Toledo (Spain), 2002/02

La foto es a un escaparate de una tienda de espejos, frente al pórtico de la catedral de Toledo. El objetivo está enfocado a los espejos, que reflejan la catedral, y al mismo tiempo también se refleja levemente sobre el propio cristal del escaparate. Es una foto muy extraña, con muchos juegos ópticos simultáneos. No me encanta, pero creo que es curiosa.

I took this photo to a shopwindow of a shop of looking glasses, in front of the portico of the cathedral of Toledo. The lens are focused to these glasses, that reflejct the cathedral. At the same time the window of the shop reflect the cathedral too. It is a very strange photo. I don't love it, but it is very curious.

"cochuva" envía esta foto tomada desde el Monte St.Michel (Francia). Dice que es una vista de la bahía, parcialmente inundada por el agua. Me gusta la fotro por lo extraño del paisaje y de la luz. También es curioso el borde, con las plantas contrastando con el fondo. "cochuva" espera vuestros comentarios :)

"cochuva" sends this photo, taken from the Mont St.Michel (France). She sais that it is the view of the bay, partially covered by water. I like the photo because it is an strange landscape, with a very rare light. Also it is curious the edge of the photo, with these plants contrasting with the background. She/he (?) is waiting for your comments :)
